•	Grant to equip the start ups to grow their business and strengthen the local software ecosystem
Mumbai, April 21, 2011: Microsoft today reinforced its commitment towards fostering innovation and nurturing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in India by announcing a grant of USD 100,000 to launch the Microsoft BizSpark India StartUp Challenge. The ‘Challenge’, launched by Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer, Microsoft, is a unique contest for start-ups in the field of product software to showcase their creativity and receive constructive feedback, inputs into the technology roadmap, and mentorship from their peers, top investors and Microsoft.
Four start-ups will win grants amounting to a total of USD 100,000; USD 40000 for the winners & USD 10000 for runners up in the categories of cloud computing, mobile applications and software products. The contest commences on April 21, is open to those startups that currently have product/IP and are leveraging Microsoft technologies. The winners will be announced in June, 2011. The contestants will be assessed on three key parameters; innovation, market potential of the business and a compelling story behind the idea. More information about the ‘Challenge’ is available on http://www.bizsparkstartupchallenge.com/ .
This challenge is in line with Microsoft’s commitment to promote innovation and entrepreneurship and foster the growth of the local software ecosystem. Over the years through its ‘Spark Series’, Microsoft has consistently impacted several aspiring entrepreneurs at crucial stages of their lives- right from their education to the moment they begin their own ventures. The initiatives include:
-	DreamSpark, a program which provides developer tools to students free of charge. Over 4 million students have already gained access to the latest Microsoft tools in India through this.
-	WebsiteSpark, a program that gives web designers and developers a jump-start by providing the tools and resources needed to build great websites, free of cost.
- I-spark, a program which fosters entrepreneurship and innovation amongst students across India, where colleges and universities are required to build an ‘Innovation Platform’ which acts as a ‘hub for collaboration’ amongst colleges, universities, government, quasi-government bodies, industry bodies and partners and so far 100, 000 students have benefitted through the ISpark centers.
-	BizSpark, a program designed to accelerate the success of IT entrepreneurs through software support. Over 1300 startups provided professional software at no charge and actively engaged.
-	BizSpark One, an invite only program, aimed at accelerating the growth of select high potential startups through a one-to-one relationship with Microsoft and a global community of advisors, investors, and peers. The three companies that are in the fast track include Gradatim, iCreate and Sportingmindz.
Speaking on the occasion, Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer, Microsoft Corporation said “India has witnessed unprecedented growth in the last couple of years where IT innovation has played a pivotal role in this growth story. India has some of the brightest young minds and Microsoft is committed to invest in India and support the large number of entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs. These are exciting times, especially with the arrival of 3G and 4G technology, where customer demands and expectations are bound to increase dramatically for services on cloud and mobile platforms. At Microsoft, we are fully committed to providing our customers with cloud and mobile solutions, and we recognize the need to build a strong partner ecosystem to help us serve the needs of our customers and the key to building that ecosystem is supporting startups and students. Our success is largely based on the success of students, start ups and the continued fostering and development of an ecosystem that will contribute to the overall success of India”.
Speaking on the occasion, Moorthy Uppaluri, General Manager, Developer Platform Evangelism Team, Microsoft India, said, “India is on a progressive growth path and some of the most potent factors contributing to this are innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship. This ‘Challenge’ is a platform and opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to leverage latest technologies to the optimum and showcase their innovation in creating business models that will have a positive impact on the overall development of India. Microsoft through initiatives such as these will continue to showcase its commitment towards creating a compelling future for people and businesses through innovation and research.”
Mr. Harkesh Mittal, Adviser & Head- National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology said, “We are living in an extremely competitive world and it is vital for entrepreneurs to be well equipped not only with the latest technologies, but at the same time, be mentored adequately to compete at a global platform. For a growing economy like India, there is a vital need to form a comprehensive product development ecosystem. This will not only propel further growth of the nation, but will also enable Indian companies to have a distinct identity that will set global benchmarks vis-à-vis product expertise. We are excited to join hands with Microsoft and AICTE and are hopeful that this partnership will act as catalyst to grow IT entrepreneurship & support the creation of local software economy in India.”
Dr. S S Mantha, Chairman, AICTE said, “One of the most potent tools that has been playing a pivotal role towards the development of a growing economy like India is technology. We are pleased to see an industry leader like Microsoft offer access to the latest technologies to young students and individuals. This, not only provides the young minds with a practical understanding of the impact of technology on business, but also gives encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs.”
Before planning to start a business an individual needs to have thorough knowledge about the types of companies available for formation. Understanding the price involved along with advantages will allow them to set up the best suited company in terms of budget limitations and size of the company.

Most common types of companies people get to choose which can launched according to the procedures are:

1) Private company which means that the minimum paid up capital to be one lakh or higher and it limits the transfer rights of company shares. It also restricts the members of this company excluding persons employed in the company currently, previously. General public are not allowed to own shares in this company, does not even accept deposits from people other than the members of the company.

2) Any company which is not private can be said to be public company and capital investment can be any where from five lakh rupees.

3) Government Company is the one where the Central Government, state Government or both the governments partly have shares at least fifty one percent or more.

4) Foreign companies are the one which have their headquarters outside India and yet have work place in India and also handle local business.

Types of companies are categorized based on the incorporation, liability and control factors. Corporations are broadly seen in existence, they have special feature which differentiates if from other business ventures, these are said to be legally independent from the owner which does not make them liable for the business and freeing the burden from their shoulders. The owners will not be responsible for any debts or losses occurred in the company however they will loose all the investment put into this.

Partnerships are other prominent type of companies available, which is opted by most of them so that they can avail the tax benefits offered to the owners. The only disadvantage with this type of company is that the owners will be held in charge for any legal issues which the company may come across. Limited Liability companies combine all the features of partnership and corporations and make use of all the best qualities in both types that is the owner can take advantages of the tax profit and yet will not be held responsible for the legal troubles.

However, it is not necessary that every person who has started the business should be successful few of these did not even reach close to success and those who have tasted success had to fail many a times to reach the precise idea which worked out for them. When various successful entrepreneurs have been compared, interestingly it was found that all of them seemed to share few similar characteristics than that of general public. These qualities have been recognized as the one to have made them to reach peaks of success.

Below listed are the various characteristics which may aid an individual to set up successful business for themselves:

1) Determination – there are people who have never lost hope even when they have already seen failure due to bad planning or an idea which is of lowest quality. Instead only an individual who has the will to succeed despite the failure and one who constantly keeps on working to see that they attain what they have started out for is said to get it for sure.

2) Creativity – unique ideas and marketing techniques will assuredly attract a large number of people which in turn will increase the sales, profits and also the success of either the product or company.

3) Risk taking – there can never be greater benefits without minimal risks involved, every successful person will have taken one or other risk before taking credit for the success. Many successful entrepreneurs have obtained huge amounts or benefits by using their talents in various aspects other than their area of expertise.

4) Many successful entrepreneurs known for their ability to come up with perfect strategies and their skill to think about long lasting opportunities have been the main reason to their success.

It is said that entrepreneurs will not need any business degree or qualification before they set off their business, also few of the top successful entrepreneurs do not own college degree. It is always an area of confusion for youngsters who have lot of passion for business due to their creative thoughts however this is the time which will mark the rest of their life.

It is not hard and fast rule that regular college attendance will ensure success of an individual’s life however, it is quite significant and also has many advantages of their own. Few youngsters may point to famous personalities like Bill Gates who have been drop outs from colleges and yet succeeded. They may consider them as inspiration to not attend the college but they also have to see the effective ways of their thinking.

It might turn out quite dangerous for young entrepreneurs to skip going to college, we only know about the persons who have been successful even after being a dropout. There many be numerous unknown persons who are unsuccessful in all their ventures after ignoring the college education. These unsuccessful people blame it on the degree and seem to think of only one thing to say and desire that they wish they had finished the college and acquired a degree.

It might be great to do things out of their way, however the reasons to do so also counts apart from the things done. Only people who have valid reason to not attend the college and yet achieve success will be considered in high regards, not young entrepreneurs who have a chance to attend the classes and yet did not intend to do so. Any individual with successful career and many achievements to name is put in high esteem rather than the person who is successful even after minor failure.

Going to college will allow young entrepreneurs to gain more experience and have constant learning experience and also have practical knowledge by implementing things immediately also it creates a scope to increase their social network.

Women who are married generally have many responsibilities and in case of mothers it is quite difficult for them to step out of the house for stipulated time and work in their area of interest. Due to this most of them do not go for jobs though it is their passion to work in that field instead sacrifices it for their family and children. Any woman who has their choice of job with flexible timing will really show wonders in the market, for them specially this entrepreneur is great advantage and it is lot easier than the general representation.

Before the introduction of internet, women did not have chance to sit at home and manage the business but now they will never have to leave the home and yet become women entrepreneur. This will also help them to generate income even after relaxing at home there may be various ways in which women from entire world will create balance between their life at home and still be able to raise good company on their own.

Working online will allow women entrepreneur to choose their own work timings and also the type of work which is of their interest and make as much money as they can. All that is required for women to become entrepreneur would be a personal computer and internet connection with unique and innovative ideas. Also, for a woman to become entrepreneur does not have any prerequisites or qualifications or business degrees.

Also this will be sort of an inspiration to the children and later on the company can be handed over to them. Working at home will also give them an idea on this right from their childhood and they might lend their hand at times whenever they need extra pocket money. There is no need for business degree to get into this field, only creativity and some time to spare is plentiful to succeed a business. It is already said that there no better managers than women.

Research has shown that most of the business startups have higher failure chances than the chance of success in their first attempt itself. Therefore it is better to understand the mistakes committed by previous entrepreneurs during the start of the business which may help any upcoming entrepreneur by not repeating the same things again and again. However, even with proper guidance there may be chances that the mistakes will be done in some other aspect which might even help an individual to learn from the errors they have encountered with personal experience rather than hearing out the other person’s doings.

Below are the reasons why most of the entrepreneurs might have a scope to fail:

1) Lack of focus: Most of the entrepreneurs fail only because they have diverted the concentration from their actual purpose. They try to do everything possible in the hope that they might see instant success in any other area rather the one they have chosen. Instead of trying various fields it is better to stick to one specific area and put in all the efforts even if it does not produce the expected results.

2) Diverting from the skill possessed: It is always important and good to stick to the area of interest where the entrepreneur seems to be an expert at and entirely dedicate till they seem to achieve something in that area.

3) Impatience & hesitancy: Often it is noticed that people jump headfirst into an unknown area and tend to make mistakes thereby loosing patience instead of learning from the mistakes made which may become quite expensive if ignored. Few people even after complete research are not willing to take the first step and keep on thinking about all prospective failures or mishappenings.

4) It is better to pay heed to advice of other experienced personnel, instead of turning deaf to the suggestions which might reduce the risk involved even by minimal percent.

It is quite easy to follow the success stories of an entrepreneur but it is difficult at the same time is important to look out for the failure of successful entrepreneurs which will give rough idea on things which do not have to be ignored.

Work life relates to the appropriate prioritization of professional work and private life simultaneously at the same time. Technology was developed to reduce the time spent to do daily chores and give people more time to enjoy with extracurricular activities. Increasing absenteeism and larger number of claims for compensations represent the unhealthy conditions of work life balance in a company.

The reason for unsteady work life balance may be due to various reasons like personal ambitions set by an individual and also pressures from family along with the need to keep up to date with the latest technologies. Various tips which can help an individual to balance work life in the coming future are:

1) The entrepreneur should have a reason to leave the work place, though it is easy to expand the income in the same way it is also easy to unknowingly extend the working hours.

2) Make choices about the work and accept that an individual cannot be entirely swamped with work more than they are capable to do.

3) Preventions of things like calls, emails and text messages will reduce the time taken to finish off the tasks. Trying to control things will help an individual to make progress in work and allow the individual to involve in recreational activities as per the plan.

4) It is always good to often use words like no and not now instead of accepting every task given and getting overloaded with work. Find out the purpose of the freshly assigned work and finish the task based on the importance of even other jobs.

5) If an entrepreneur has strained throughout the day, then they have to seek out a means to escape from strenuous tasks.

6) It is better to invest energy in positive manner and achieve things instead of worrying about minor things which do not really matter much.

7) It is better for any person or an entrepreneur to control themselves and abstain themselves from coming under the pressure of basic human nature of willing to blame other people for any discrepancy.

Most of them do not take much time since they either do not have time to spare or may not be able to afford the expenditure required to take break. Those who take breaks during work usually plan ahead for any holiday expeditions they take.

For the business to thrive sales & marketing techniques have to be used in conjunction in appropriate manner, thereby allowing an individual to fulfill the set business objectives and meet all the goals set. Proper understanding of both techniques differently will allow the individual to come up with tactics which can assure that the business will cover all the areas.

Sales methods help the business to increase the number of products being sold in the market and also the usage of the product by numerous people will allow the company to further enhance the product. All the activities performed by sales team of a business is to go in search of prospective product buyers and educate them on the product features and how the product will be useful to ease their life with the services offered. The ultimate goal set forward to the sales member is to conclude the selling process of product at beneficial prices to both the parties, and also in such a way that the customer will seek out the company for future buying.

Marketing strategies include only endorsing the features of the product in such a way that the buyers will be dragged to the sales team to buy the product. These strategies have to be designed in such a way that the prices of the product have to set in a way that it suits all the customer needs and promises to fulfill the requirements. Unlike the sales team, marketing members have huge responsibilities like they have to constantly evaluate the customer needs and research the market to know the features which can further be added to the product to increase the sales.

Contemporary marketing strategies involve promotion of services or products using media advertisements like in Television, newspapers, radio etc. Along with the technological developments tactics for Sales & marketing have to be improvised so that both the traditional and modern strategies are used in combination to include all areas of people and satisfy their needs. Proper communication of the sales & marketing teams will enhance the business and help in maintaining long lasting relationships with the clients.
